New Book of Teachings by Yongdzin Rinpoche: Quintessential Secret Instructions in Eight Chapters
Today marks one year since the cremation of Yongdzin Rinpoche’s kudung. Many of you will have seen the amazing rainbows that appeared in the sky above Triten Norbutse Monastery that day, and so we have chosen this auspicious date to offer a new volume of Rinpoche’s priceless teachings on Zhang Zhung Nyengyu, of which he was the Single Lineage Holder.
Yongdzin Rinpoche gave these teachings on the Quintessential Secret Instructions in Eight Chapters in August-September 1995 during an intimate retreat held in Gerrit and Isabella Huber’s home in Wels, Austria. These teachings are from the Exceedingly Secret section of Zhang Zhung Nyengyu, the most ancient Dzogchen cycle, which has an uninterrupted transmission lineage stretching from Kuntu Zangpo up until now.
Although Gerrit Huber transcribed these teachings many years ago, the initial version was quite raw and only available to the small group of people who had attended that retreat. Following Yongdzin Rinpoche’s passing into Great Bliss in June 2025, Carol and I realised it would be of great benefit to share these wonderful teachings with all those who have met and received Dzogchen teachings from Lopön Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche himself or who have transmission for this text from another qualified Bönpo lama. With Gerrit’s permission, we have re-edited his manuscript, verifying it against the Tibetan text.
As Rinpoche said before starting to teach: “This teaching must be studied seriously and if problems of understanding arise, you should ask a trustworthy and knowledgeable person. This teaching should not be joked about or spread around uncontrolled.”
