A Big Thank You: Help Dhorpatan Appeal closes this weekend

Dear Friends! This weekend we are closing the Help Dhorpatan Disaster Relief appeal. On behalf of the villagers there, we would like to thank you all for your tremendous generosity – to date we have raised just over £5,000 pounds. We hope you have enjoyed learning a little more about this remote area of Nepal that was home to the first Tibetan Refugee Settlement and is still home to many ethnic Tibetans, both Bönpo and Buddhist, as well as to Nepali families practising Hinduism. Dhorpatan: home to the first Bönpo Medical School in exile. Please help

Many of us have benefited from the herbal medicines prepared by the clinic attached to Triten Norbutse Monastery but perhaps not so many know the history of this medical school. The first medical school and clinic were actually established back In 1987 in the refugee settlement of Dhorpatan, Nepal at the request of Yongdzin Rinpoche and 33rd Menri Tridzin Rinpoche by Dr. Tsultrim Sanggye. This area has recently been attacked by locusts that have destroyed the villagers’ potato crops and maybe some precious herbs, too. Please help us send them food and other essentials. Oldest Bönpo Community in Exile Needs Our Help

18th July 2020

The oldest Tibetan refugee settlement in Nepal has been hit by locusts. We are currently collecting money for essential food supplies. The refugee camp of Nordzin Ling in Dhorpatan is extremely important to all Bönpos because it was the first home for many Tibetan Bönpos who had to flee Tibet. And the first monastery in exile was built here, too. Nordzin Ling was established thanks to the work of Yongdzin Rinpoche’s disciple, 32nd Abbot of Menri Monastery Sonam Lodrö and generous help from the Red Cross.

We are running the Help Dhorpatan fundraising campaign for one month starting today 15 July 2020. On top of hardships caused by corona virus, the farmers in this mountainous region are now faced with huge swarms of hungry locusts that have descended on their villages and are destroying their crops.
