Masters of the Zhang Zhung Nyengyud published in Japanese!

We are thrilled that Masters of the Zhang Zhung Nyengyud: Pith Instructions from the Experiential Transmission of Bönpo Dzogchen came out in Japanese today!

These precious teachings are from the long version of the Experiential Transmission of Dzogchen from the land of Zhang Zhung (Rdzogs-pa chen-po zhang-zhung snyan-rgyud kyi nyam-rgyud skya-ru bzhug-pa legs so), pith instructions taught by a long line of realised Dzogchen masters, all of whom achieved rainbow body. In the 8th century, the revered Zhang Zhung master Taphiritsa allowed these oral instructions to be written down for the first time. In the 10th century, the great Master Pönchen Tsenpo translated these teachings into Tibetan and in 2008, the Head Teacher of Yungdrung Bön tradition and the current lineage holder of Zhang Zhung Nyengyud, Yongdzin Lopön Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche, allowed them to be published in English for the very first time, in the book Masters of the Zhang Zhung Nyengyud: Pith Instructions from the Experiential Transmission of Bönpo Dzogchen (Heritage Publishers, New Delhi, 2010).

During a conversation with Yongdzin Rinpoche four years ago, he stressed that when Yungdrung Bön teachings are initially brought to a new land, it is important for this text to be translated first. And so Takahiko Hakodera, a long-time student of Yongdzin Rinpoche, was inspired to translate this book into Japanese. After a period of intense collaboration and work (Takahiko devoted around two years to this project), the book: 虹の身体の成就者たち ―ボン教のゾクチェン「体験の伝授」の系譜と教え goes on sale in Japan today!

This is truly a momentous event and we extend our congratulations to Taka-san! May this book be of great help for many generations of Japanese Bönpos!

Thatsen Mutsug Marro!
